Chapter 12 – Releasing the gods

Just over a week had passed now. The news of the future and the release of the Elemental masks spread like wildfire. Pretty much every anthro around all 3 islands knew about it. Many were excited, some curious and some unimpressed. The news even spread to the Academy of Evil.

Some of the anthros did not like the idea of going into the future to live, even if it meant living among other anthros. Some simply feared the future, so they didn’t want to go. The Potoroo gang, was a group who didn’t want to leave. They liked their life here too much, and they liked the cities, where they sometimes went for enjoyment. Tani tried to warn her friend Tiffany about not having a ‘true’ future here, because once their offspring get older… they have no chance of ever finding a partner, unless someone is there to carry on evolving more potoroo’s. And the generations after that… and others like Koala Kong and the Komodo brothers didn’t want to go neither.

However, most of Crunch’s family liked the idea, though some were nervous about it and wouldn’t go unless they knew for sure that the future was a bright one. While Crunch’s sisters, Crystal, Chayenne and Tawna wanted to go as soon as possible. The Professor didn’t want to go into the future right away, but he was curious about going there, if Tani and the rest of her family decide to make the big move there.

But today was the day when Crunch would free the elementals. He had a long talk with all 4 of them, and they also explained that the changes they will make will simply happen ‘slowly’ over time anyway, not suddenly. They said it takes hundreds and even thousands of years to make the big changes, and that made Crunch feel relieved. But to the elementals, that is very quick.

They did explain to Crunch that some people may die, even without their intension. Because there is too many of them on the planet. But they explained to Crunch that they will do him and the environment proud, and will everything they can to fix everything and insure that the major pollution stops, as well as the man-made extinctions. Even though the elementals truly only care about their own powers and ‘creations’. But they did have respect for Crunch’s wishes, and Crunch himself. As he is their guardian, after all.

Crunch stood high on a Cliffside, of X.Treme Island. He peered out into the horizon… before spreading out his arms and pawhands, and closing his eyes to release the Elements from the crystals around his neck.

He glowed brilliantly and the elementals soon came out of the crystals, sparkling. They appeared before him, and he opened his eyes to look up at them. They looked down at him with content expressions…

“This is it… isn’t it?”

Rok-ko said, sounding slightly down… strangely. Crunch nodded, and waited for another mask to speak,

“I think you’re making the right choice, young Sergeant! Be informed though, that this isn’t goodbye. Well will meet again, in your future!”

“Thank you, both of you. Please… don’t forget me now, heh. I’ll be there to be your guardian again, so we can go around kicking ass, like good times…! IF there is any bad guys in the future, that is… heh”

“Oh ya! What good future would it be if there isn’t any villains to p(o)wn!?”

Rok-ko said after Crunch, with a laugh. The other elementals smirked as well, and even Crunch.

“Hey now, it isn’t always fun and games, heh! But… I think I’ll miss you guys, even if it’s only for a few days, for myself anyway”

“And a ‘few’ thousand years for us, heh. But ehh, thousands of years is not that long anyway…!”

Py-ro said, grinning. Crunch sighed for a moment, before looking up at them…

“I suppose… this is it…”

“Yes my boy, good luck with going to the future again… we’ll make sure it will be a good one!”

Lo-lo told Crunch, and he nodded as a reply… then the elementals floated up a bit, before they all turned back to Crunch for the last time…

Chao… for now, bandicoot boy. When you see that the future is bright, take all that you love with you…”

“Good bye to you too, master. You’ll be without our powers for a while, but even I know you can still kick ass, without us!”

“Farewell to you, soldier! May your wishes come to you at granted, well will be there to report to you, as soon as you arrive…!”

“Sigh… and now my turn… Laters, Crunch. You’ve been a good pal to not only me, but all of us! We will meet again…!”

Rok-ko said. After Lo-lo, Py-ro and Wa-wa.

Crunch carried on looking up at them, with a smile of hope as they slowly drifted off into the sky and fade off, he waved as they disappeared… and started to blend in with the atmosphere and environment. They were soon completely invisible to him, so he stopped waving, and looked back down on himself.

“It’s now time… to see if this future really is saved…”
